Three organizations to research
The summaries below come from the organizations’ own public descriptions. They establish a starting point for questions, not independent verification of outcomes or suitability for every province and debt type.
| Organization | Website | Publicly described service |
|---|---|---|
| Credit Canada | creditcanada.com | Non-profit credit counselling and financial guidance |
| Credit Counselling Society | nomoredebts.org | Non-profit counselling, education and repayment support |
| Consolidated Credit Canada | consolidatedcreditcanada.ca | Counselling and financial education; states it is not a lender |
Do not compare a debt plan as if it were new cash
Ask whether any new money would be advanced or whether the service arranges repayment of existing accounts. A single scheduled payment can appear in very different products. If your goal is borrowing for a purchase, say so; if the goal is handling existing debt, compare the specific repayment arrangement.
Use a scorecard based on your requirements
Make one column for each organization and record answers rather than assigning arbitrary stars. Include province and language availability, initial appointment cost, plan fees, creditor treatment, payment disbursement, support and exit terms. Mark an unanswered question as unknown instead of treating it as zero cost or an included feature.
Our take: a shortlist is not a recommendation to enrol
The strongest choice is the one whose actual service fits the problem and whose agreement you understand. We have not tested client service, contacted these organizations for a personalized quote or audited their marketing testimonials. If formal insolvency advice is needed, verify the licensed professional responsible rather than relying on a general debt-help description.
Prepare for a conversation
- The service you want: guidance, a repayment plan or new borrowing.
- Location, language and accessibility requirements.
- A written fee and creditor-treatment comparison.
- Unanswered questions to resolve before enrolment.
You do not need account numbers, a SIN, banking credentials or uploaded documents to start our enquiry.
Which of these is the best debt company?
This review does not establish a universal winner. We would need comparable evidence and the details of the service you need. Use the comparison to ask better questions, not to assume every plan will suit you.
