Debt.ca review: debt information and a provider-introduction service

A debt-help website and the professional responsible for a debt agreement can be different organizations. Debt.ca’s own disclosure makes that distinction important.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Debt.ca describes information and tools alongside a service that connects visitors with debt professionals. Its disclaimer says it does not provide direct debt-adjustment services. Our view: verify the introduced professional’s role and the actual agreement before deciding whether a proposed option fits.

What Debt.ca says its role is

The About page offers educational resources and a form to connect with a specialist. Its footer describes a locator service rather than direct debt-adjustment services. This review treats that as an introduction model, not as proof that Debt.ca itself administers every option described on its site.

Identify the professional after the introduction

Ask for the legal name, service role and licence where applicable. For formal consumer proposals and bankruptcies, the OSB identifies the Licensed Insolvency Trustee role. A general label such as specialist or consultant does not on its own establish that authority. Confirm who would assess, recommend and administer the specific service.

A savings estimate needs its assumptions

Record which debts are included, the proposed payment, duration, fees and conditions. Ask whether the estimate assumes creditor participation, approval or changes in interest. Compare the same debt list across options. A percentage in an advertisement should not be treated as a personal outcome without that explanation.

Our take: evaluate the handoff as well as the information

Information can help you prepare, but the meaningful next decision is the service you are offered and who is responsible for it. We have not tested Debt.ca’s matching performance or measured its client outcomes. DebtHelpers is a separate enquiry service and also needs to be judged on its own permissions and any future provider arrangement.

Prepare for a conversation

  • The introduced professional’s legal name and role.
  • Licence verification for regulated services.
  • The assumptions behind any quoted savings.
  • The full agreement, costs and information-sharing permissions.

You do not need account numbers, a SIN, banking credentials or uploaded documents to start our enquiry.

Are Debt.ca and DebtHelpers.ca the same business?

No affiliation is established by this review. You are reading DebtHelpers content, and our CTA starts a separate enquiry preview, not Debt.ca’s form.
