Consolidation loan declined? Other next steps in Canada

A lender’s decision can be discouraging. Before choosing your next step, separate “I still want to borrow” from “I need help managing the debt I already have.”

THE SHORT ANSWER

A declined loan does not decide every next step. Understand the lender’s reasons, then choose whether to explore another borrowing enquiry or support with existing payments.

Find my consolidation options

Start with the reason for the decision

Ask the lender what information informed its decision and whether it can explain the issues you would need to address. Keep that explanation with your own notes. This website cannot reverse a lender’s decision or tell you that another lender will approve you.

A different offer is not automatically a better outcome

FCAC warns that a consolidation product with a higher rate than your existing debts can increase your debt. It also notes that several loan applications in a short time may affect your credit score. Compare costs before starting another application.

You can change the kind of help you request

If you want to continue exploring borrowing, choose the consolidation enquiry below. If your priority is coping with payments, choose counselling instead. Those are separate purposes; selecting one should not silently sign you up for the other.

Prepare for a conversation

  • Do you know why the earlier application was declined?
  • Would a new payment actually fit your budget?
  • What rate, fees and repayment term would make the offer worthwhile?
  • Would help reviewing existing payments be more useful than another application?

You do not need account numbers, a SIN, banking credentials or uploaded documents to start our enquiry.

Is a DebtHelpers enquiry a second loan application?

No. It records the type of introduction you are requesting, not a lender decision. DebtHelpers does not check your credit in this form. Any later provider application would be a separate step with its own disclosures.

Still want to explore consolidation?

Start a free enquiry. No approval promise, no credit check in this form, and no obligation to accept a later offer.

Looking for a different kind of help?

If the priority is managing payments, request a counselling conversation without applying for a loan.
