Look at the payments, not just the total
Write down each card’s balance, interest rate, minimum payment and due date. Compare the combined payments with what remains after essential expenses. FCAC recommends a repayment plan that you can realistically follow; a plan that repeatedly leaves you short needs another look.
A new loan and repayment support are different paths
Consolidation replaces balances with another credit product. It can simplify payments, but a longer term can increase total interest. Counselling is a separate conversation about your finances and possible repayment arrangements; it is not a loan application.
Tell us what is hardest right now
Is it tracking several due dates, finding enough money for the minimums, or understanding which option to discuss? Our counselling enquiry starts with your province and situation before asking for contact details. You do not need to know the name of a debt solution to begin.
Prepare for a conversation
- Which card payment is most difficult to manage?
- Are any balances already overdue?
- What monthly payment could you sustain without borrowing again?
- Would you prefer repayment guidance or to explore a new loan?
You do not need account numbers, a SIN, banking credentials or uploaded documents to start our enquiry.
Does this enquiry apply for a credit card or loan?
No. The primary form on this page is a request for credit-counselling guidance. DebtHelpers does not run a credit check in this form. A separate borrowing application would have its own terms and permissions.
Looking for a different kind of help?
Already looking specifically for a new loan to combine balances? Start that separate enquiry.
